TAEKYUN
Discover Taekyun – Korea’s Dynamic Traditional Martial Art
Taekyun (also commonly written as Taekkyeon) is a traditional Korean martial art known for its flowing movement, dynamic kicks, footwork, throws and practical techniques. With a history stretching back hundreds of years, Taekyun combines traditional martial arts training with a style of movement that is unlike almost anything else.
At Zone Martial Arts, our Taekyun classes are designed to be welcoming, challenging and enjoyable for students of different ages and experience levels. You don’t need to be fit, flexible or experienced to start — you simply need to be willing to learn.
What is Taekyun?
Taekyun is characterised by its distinctive rhythmic footwork and relaxed, fluid movement. Rather than relying purely on strength or force, students learn to move naturally, control distance, create angles and use timing to their advantage.
Training includes a wide variety of techniques, including kicks, sweeps, trips, throws, footwork, defensive movements and hand techniques.
But Taekyun isn't just about kicking.
Students also learn how to disrupt an opponent's balance, control movement and use sweeps and throws. This combination creates a martial art that can be graceful and flowing one moment and fast and explosive the next.

Traditional Martial Arts with Real Benefits
Taekyun provides much more than learning martial arts techniques.
Regular training can help develop fitness, coordination, balance, flexibility and body awareness, while also building confidence, discipline and resilience.
For younger students, martial arts training can be a great way to develop focus, confidence and respect while learning how to work with others.
For teens and adults, Taekyun provides an enjoyable way to improve fitness, learn new skills and challenge yourself both physically and mentally.
And because everyone develops at their own pace, you don't have to be an athlete to get started.
A Martial Art You Can Keep Learning
One of the great things about Taekyun is its depth.
Beginners can quickly start learning the fundamental movements, footwork and techniques, but there is always another level to explore as your skills develop.
As students progress, they begin combining movements together, improving their timing and learning how techniques can be adapted against different opponents and situations.
This makes Taekyun suitable for people who want more than just a workout. It gives you a martial art you can continue learning and developing for years.
